For our iMovie project, we chose to do a humorous video about an ordinary guy transitioning into a superhero. We really wanted to do something fun for our final project.  This project challenged our acting skills, video skills, teamwork, and editing skills in iMovie. We used an iPhone to capture the movie and iMovie to edit. We filmed on Grand Valley’s campus as well as in Hannah’s apartment. Working on this project was great because we all worked together and had fun with the entire process!
How to Become a Superhero is all about Mike, an ordinary guy, who becomes “Magic Mike”, a superhero that saves people from evil by playing terribly on a ukulele to scare off the villains. The movie takes you through his journey of finding a super power, choosing his mode of transportation, concealing his identity, and finally, saving people from evil!
We chose humor as our theme because we wanted to create a movie that will make people laugh. Humor is a great way to connect people with one another and create a memorable experience. We used a superhero as our main character because who doesn’t love superheroes? Several of us wanted to do something kind of satirical, and superheroes are a large part of our culture, but most of them are very serious. We creatively picked fun at superheroes and superhero movies. It added a level of humor and personality by using our group members as the actors. It added to the originality and personalization of the movie.
We shot the movie carefully, and at various angles, so that we didn’t have to worry about editing heavily after filming. Luckily, the new iPhones have pretty good cameras, so all we had to do was make sure we didn’t move around much.  iMovie is really a software to enhance your footage, not to edit seriously. Luckily, we all had pretty steady hands while we filmed. We all took turns filming different parts, so that we could all be a part of the acting. It was cool because we all got to experience all the different aspects of making a movie, instead of one person being strictly on film or set.
Since we got good footage when we were shooting, editing went pretty smoothly. It was easy to divide between us, and we had fun adding dramatic sound effects and superhero music to our work. We wanted it to be very overly dramatic, because that’s how superhero movies are in reality, so we thought that we would make the drama fun. We took full advantage of all the sound effects and visual effects, like freeze frame, that iMovie has, and it definitely enhanced our finished product.
Overall, we are proud of our work, and we worked well together as a team. We had a lot of fun making this movie, and we hope that you enjoy watching it as much as we do.

  1. • Post card #3 stands out the most to me.
    • Making the familiar strange the knives are odd in a familiar place.
    • I like he third postcard the most because it seems like the knives will fall it creates tension.
    • I also like the way the glasses blend into the wall.
    • The knives remind me of ice cycles.
